How to create a password I can easily remember
Creating
Effective Passwords
Construction of Password
Strong
password is one that is difficult to guess. Strong passwords have these
characteristics:
a. Long: The longer the better. At least eight
characters are optimal
b. Varied: The password
contains at least one capital letter and at least one number and symbol
c. Unusual: The password does
not appear in a dictionary and isn’t a proper noun
Examples:
· Your mom Mary is living in Queenstown Block
170, password can be Mary-Queens#170
· Favorite scripture verses: 1John4:8 (God is love)
Techniques for
creating Passwords
Some other techniques for creating passwords
that are easy to remember but difficult to guess
· Substitute Zero for the Letter O in Words.
Example:
St0rageR00m
· Substitute Numbers for Letters. Use numeral
that represents the letter of the alphabet (e.g. b=2). Take the word teacher,
and substitute numerals for the 2nd and 4th digits.
Example:
t5a3her
· Combine Two or More Unrelated but Memorable
Words.
Example: GroceryCandleFlowerpot
· Substitute a Symbol for a Letter That It
Resembles.
Example:
$ looks like an S, as in $ubstitution$alary;
and ! looks like the capital I, as in !temized
What to do when you
are supposed to change your password once every 6 months?
There are 2 possible variables:
a. 1st half of the year, and 2nd
half of the year – which can be represented as 1 or 2, a or b, [or] , etc..
b. The other is the year, say 2018 or “dog” as in
year of the dog, etc.
So, you keep your main password, and you add
the two variables to the mainpassword,
and change the them accordingly. But it is important to have a consistent
system, and stick to it.
Example: password is 118Mary-Queens#170 (or 18[Mary-Queens#170
) for the first half, and 218Mary-Queens#170 (or
18]Mary-Queens#170 ).
Finally,
try not to use the same password for multiple systems. That
way, if one site is hacked, it will not affect your security on another site.
